About us

Our mission is to unite the biggest tribe of fashion enthusiasts sharing the joy of clothing while saving the environment by the means of swapping.

According to research done by WRAP, increasing the lifespan of clothing by only nine months could reduce its annual carbon, water, and waste footprint by 20–30%.

Behind the name

The name comes from the French word ‘Prêt-àPorter‘ meaning designer clothes ready to wear, as opposed to ‘Haute-couture‘ made to measure. So, the literal meaning of Swap-a-Porter is swap to wear!

Our story

Born as an Instagram page for swapping fashion items during the COVID-19 pandemic. Swap-a-Porter was created by Layana, an international student living in Australia. She discovered clothing swap parties in Melbourne and imagined how amazing it’d be if people could swap clothes as they shop online.

She dreamed about a platform just like Tinder where local girls could swap clothes for free by matching and meeting up to exchange. Lacking the skills to build an App, she decided to start her little swap project via Instagram stories emulating what she had imagined. Time was the only resource she had available during the lockdown.

The swap community flourished quickly and reached 1000 followers, after 3 successful virtual swaps events. Swap-a-Porter is immensely grateful to its community. Thanks to them we can keep going!

Every time we exchange a fashion item we are prolonging its lifespan. As a result, we reduce their carbon, water, and waste footprint.
